Setting up a tent in the dark with a phone flashlight in your teeth is a rite of passage nobody enjoys. The Spot 400 puts 400 lumens on your forehead with dimming for camp tasks, a red mode that protects night vision (and sleeping kids), and AAA power you can buy at any gas station.
🏆 How It Compares
The hands-free pick when camp tasks need both hands: the Spot 400 throws 400 lumens exactly where you're looking — cooking, filtering water, fixing a tent at midnight — something no lantern can do. Dual-fuel means it runs on AAA batteries or Black Diamond's rechargeable BD 1500 cell, and red mode preserves night vision on late bathroom runs. Honest tradeoff: 400 lumens on max drains AAA cells in a few hours, and its focused beam won't wash the whole picnic table the way a $23.99 MalloMe 4-pack lantern does. Pack it as the work light, keep a lantern for ambient glow.
